Fall 2017 Semester Update

The fall 2017 semester is off and rolling!

Student Support

Please be sure to schedule your Praxis Core test(s) as soon as possible. We will process the $3000 student support payment for the fall as soon as you've scheduled your tests. If you schedule the test(s), let us know and then watch your student account because it should be in your account shortly afterwards.

Informational Meeting

We are going to be having an informational meeting for new Project Sage participants (scholars) this next week on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at noon in Room 111 in the Education Building. Lunch will be served. If you know of any new students this fall that are interested in the bachelor degree in Elementary Education, let them know about this meeting.

Fall Educators Conference

For those of you who signed up to attend the Fall Educators Conference on Oct. 11 - 13 in Bismarck, payment for your registration has been mailed. This is a great conference and an opportunity to engage with a community of professional educators. Leah, Brenda and Lezlie are attending, too.

Have a great semester. We'll be in touch!

The First Praxis Core Boot Camp

A Praxis Core Boot Camp is three days of intense instruction and practice in Reading, Writing and Math. The first one will be offered June 19 - June 22, for four hours each day.

The first Praxis Core Boot Camp will be offered June 19 - June 22 - and focus on the area of Reading first and foremost, with a review of Writing and Math. The hours will be 9 am - noon/12:30 pm. Brenda Rhone will be sharing reading strategies that will help you meet the cut scores for the Praxis Core Reading test.

UTTC's Teacher Ed is committed to helping you prepare for the PRAXIS I (Core) exams.  You can participate in one of the Boot Camps, or all three, depending on your need.

You will take the Praxis Core test(s) immediately after completing the Boot Camp.

Childcare will be available at the UTTC Child Development Center for registered children up to age 6.  Each Boot Camp will need a minimum of 3 people or it will be re-scheduled.

We ordered test vouchers so you can take the Reading test right after the boot camp is over. If you already have a voucher, be sure to schedule your test using the voucher you have. It's a good idea to schedule it right after the Boot Camp while everything is fresh.

Please send an email to Jen Heid at jheid@uttc.edu if you are interested in attending.

Have a great week!

Praxis Core Test Voucher Process

The voucher process to take the Praxis Core tests has changed. Instead of you getting a voucher in the mail, ETS (the company) now allows us to order the vouchers in bulk. This means when we place an order, instead of you getting vouchers, we will get a bunch of codes to for you. When you register for the test, you enter the code and you're set. Jen ordered some codes so they should be in soon.

If you are hoping to student teach this fall, read this message closely. The deadline for applications is March 9th for preference in placement. If you have your application in by this date, you will get a placement. Applications get handed in to me so I can review them for you.

If you still have to pass some, or all, of your Praxis Core tests, that doesn't necessarily mean you won't be student teaching this fall. The March 9th date is for preference only. You can still take your tests, and if you pass, you can still apply for student teaching. If there are classrooms open, you might still get placed. It's basically a "first come, first placed" type setting.

You must have taken the three Praxis Core tests, and met the minimum scores, in order to apply for student teaching.

For those of you just starting in the Bachelors program, don't way too long to take these tests. The earlier the better so you can get them done. You should take these tests during your second year.

I will be meeting with all of the Sage scholars (that's you) as a group sometime in the next month and explain the process for those of you who are new. This will also be a good time for you to ask any questions you might have.
