At this time, the college is planning on face-to-face courses on campus for the fall 2020 semester. We are all hoping and praying this will happen.

A quick message to let you know Sage scholars (you) who register for a minimum of 6 credits for the summer 2020 semester will be awarded $2000 of Project Sage support. Of course, the courses you register for will need to be part of your EDU degree plan.

Take care, continue to stay safe and "see" you soon!

This post is to update you on the student support payment you are eligible for if you are a Project Sage scholar and meeting the criteria.

If you have passed all three of the Praxis Core tests, you are eligible to receive $4,000 per semester. Of course, you also have to be enrolled full-time, passing your courses and meeting the minimum score on the dispositions assessment. But those of you who are at this level meet this criteria.

If you have taken and passed at least one Praxis Core test, and have met the other criteria, you are eligible for $3,000 per semester.

If you are eligible for this student support, I'm going to wait a couple weeks to request the payment for you. The reason for this is we want to make sure your other funding sources are posted first, especially Pell (Title IV) if you're eligible for it. Once Pell is posted, the request for Sage support for those of you who are eligible will be processed.

As we've said in the past, please do not contact any of us and ask about the status of your support payment. I will let you know when the request for payment is submitted. After that, we have no way of tracking it. You'll just have to watch your student account info in my.uttc.edu to see when it's posted. Please don't call Financial Aid or Student Accounts either. As hard as it is, just be patient and watch for it in my.uttc. Again, we'll let you know when it's submitted. Once it's submitted, the money is usually in your hands within 8-10 business days.

Stay warm and I'll see you at the monthly Sage seminar that will be scheduled soon.

Thank you.

If you have passed all three of your Praxis tests, you will receive an award of $4,000 for the semester. If you have passed at least one, you will receive an award of $3,000.

We will be checking grades so I'm hoping you're all doing well in your courses. It's early in the semester so if you're missing one assignment, it's going to drop your grade. Do what you can to get them up so we can move forward with the student support for you.

A couple of you still have a few steps that need to be completed before we can process your award. I will send you an email, letting you know the things we need turned in.

It was nice visiting with you at the Sage Seminar this past Thursday. I look forward to these monthly meetings. Brenda and Lezlie keep me updated on how well you're all doing so know that I'm wishing you continued success and that you have my total support.

Have a wonderful semester and we'll be in touch!
presented on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at United Tribes
Technical College in Bismarck. The curriculum to be presented, The
Untold Story of the Department of Justice Incarceration
of People of Japanese Ancestry, is for middle and secondary social
studies and humanities educators. A $150 stipend, refreshments, and
light lunch will be provided.

In the 1930s and 1940s, numerous people living in the United States were
identified as “enemy aliens” and placed on a secret government list
called the Custodial Detention List. This workshop will consider how
being placed on this list impacted the lives and
communities of people of Japanese ancestry. It take a close look the
political policies and climate that led to the incarceration of both
citizens and aliens of Japanese ancestry within hours of the bombing of
Pearl Harbor.

The workshop is co-sponsored by the National Japanese American
Historical Society, San Francisco; the National Park Service, the State
Historical Society of North Dakota, and United Tribes Technical College.

This project was funded, in part, by a grant from the U.S. Department of
the Interior, National Park Service Japanese American Confinement Sites
Grant. The mission of the Japanese American Historical Society in San
Francisco, California, is to educate the public
about the contributions of Japanese Americans to American Society.
You will have to watch your student accounts in my.uttc to find out when the money will be added to your account. We submit the request but we do not know when the funds are actually available to you. Please allow at least 5 business days for it to be processed. I know it's hard not to call people and ask them about it but it's a Finance Office process so we have to let them do their job.

As we mentioned at the last monthly seminar we had, summer financial support is different than it is for the fall/spring semesters. During the fall and spring semesters, grant participants (you) are eligible to receive $3,000 per semester as long as you are passing your courses, making progress on your Praxis tests, etc. The summer semester is different. According to the grant, which is Department of Education money, scholars (you) can receive up to $1500.

This is how summer student support is calculated: If you take a summer course and pass it with a C, or higher, you are eligible to receive $750. If you take more than one course, you have to pass all of your courses with a C, or higher. So if you fail a summer course, you are not eligible for student support since the funds are awarded based on academic performance.

This summer we added an incentive for attending the Praxis Boot Camp and/or passing the Praxis Core tests. If a scholar passes one or more of the Praxis Core tests, the scholar can receive an additional $500 for each test passed. The clincher here is that the total amount cannot exceed $1500. This is not our rule; it's determined by the grant.

I hope this clarifies things for you. I know this money is important to all of you to help cover the cost of your education, rent, and so on.

Please email me at lazure@uttc.edu if you have questions. I am the Project Director for this grant so will do my best to answer your questions specific to funding.
Reminder that we take attendance at these monthly luncheon meetings so all Teacher Ed students who are participating in Project Sage are expected to attend. This is upstairs from Security, on the second floor. Pizza will be served so you don't have to bring lunch.

The Project Sage grant requires us to bring "scholars" (their term for you, the participants) together on a regular basis. We've scheduled these meeting every month in the past and have found it helps keep us moving forward, as a cohort (group), if we connect to answer questions, provide encouraging words, or just have lunch together.

Attendance will be taken at this noon meeting, as at all of them. Join us to get updates on professional development opportunities (conferences you can attend), your student support payment, info on the dreaded Praxis, and so on.

If you are receiving an email with this message, you are invited to join us. See you at noon!

Student Support

Please be sure to schedule your Praxis Core test(s) as soon as possible. We will process the $3000 student support payment for the fall as soon as you've scheduled your tests. If you schedule the test(s), let us know and then watch your student account because it should be in your account shortly afterwards.

Informational Meeting

We are going to be having an informational meeting for new Project Sage participants (scholars) this next week on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at noon in Room 111 in the Education Building. Lunch will be served. If you know of any new students this fall that are interested in the bachelor degree in Elementary Education, let them know about this meeting.

Fall Educators Conference

For those of you who signed up to attend the Fall Educators Conference on Oct. 11 - 13 in Bismarck, payment for your registration has been mailed. This is a great conference and an opportunity to engage with a community of professional educators. Leah, Brenda and Lezlie are attending, too.

Have a great semester. We'll be in touch!
